July 28, 2022

I really don’t know anyone who has visited Barcelona and not fallen in love with the city. The architecture, the food, the atmosphere – it’s all just so perfect. If you’re planning a trip to Barcelona, or even if you’re just thinking about it, here are some of the best things to do in this amazing city.

Visit the Sagrada Familia

The first thing on any list of things to do in Barcelona has got to be to visit the Sagrada Familia. This incredible church is the life work of Antoni Gaudí, and it’s still unfinished – construction began in 1882 and is expected to continue until 2026. Even if you’re not religious, the Sagrada Familia is well worth a visit for its unique architecture and stunning setting.

Take a walk down Las Ramblas

No visit to Barcelona is complete without a leisurely stroll down Las Ramblas, the city’s most famous boulevard. This pedestrianized street is lined with trees and beautiful buildings, and it’s the perfect place to people-watch and soak up the atmosphere of Barcelona. Make sure you stop at one of the many street performers along the way!

Go on a tapas crawl

One of the best things about Barcelona is the food – specifically, the tapas. Small plates of deliciousness, there’s no better way to sample all the different flavours of Barcelona than by going on a tapas crawl. Start in the Barceloneta neighborhood and work your way around – you won’t be disappointed.

Visit Park Güell

Another of Antoni Gaudí’s masterpieces, Park Güell is a must-visit for anyone spending time in Barcelona. This public park is located on Carmel Hill and offers stunning views over the city. The park is also incredibly beautiful, with intricate mosaics and colorful buildings designed by Gaudí.

See a flamenco show

Flamenco is an integral part of Spanish culture, and Barcelona is the perfect place to see this passionate dance performed live. Plenty of venues around the city offer flamenco shows, so do some research and find one that you think will suit you. You won’t be disappointed – watching flamenco is an unforgettable experience.

Wander around the Gothic Quarter

The Gothic Quarter is one of the most atmospheric parts of Barcelona, and it’s well worth spending some time exploring its narrow streets and hidden squares. The city’s historical center is full of medieval architecture and charming cafes. Start at Plaça de Catalunya and wander – you’ll soon get lost in the magic of this place.

Take a day trip to Montserrat

Just a short train ride from Barcelona, Montserrat is well worth a visit for its incredible setting alone. This mountain range is home to the Montserrat Monastery, a Benedictine abbey that perches atop a rocky outcrop. You can take a cable car or hike to the top, and there are plenty of hiking trails to explore.

Visit the Museu Picasso

Located in the Gothic Quarter, the Museu Picasso is one of the most popular museums in Barcelona. This is the world’s largest collection of Picasso’s work, housed in five beautiful medieval palaces. Even if you’re not a huge fan of Picasso’s work, the museum is worth a visit for the architecture alone.
